Other Dignitaries,

Good Morning to all

I am very happy to inaugurate the Global Business Conclave organized by Apna Pariwar Global, which has been providing platforms for ‘creative discussions on initiating new business ventures’ and ‘strengthening existing businesses’.

Let me begin by complimenting the efforts of Apna Pariwar Global, led by Dr. Ram Kailash Gupta in organizing Industrial and Business Houses Conclavesin 36 different destinations in various countries. As an organization engaged in the promotion of business ventures, Apna Pariwar Global has been mentoring many non-governmental organizations and linking business houses to developmental activities.                  I am informed that the Apna Pariwar Global - Elite often gets representation from business houses in Switzerland, Singapore, Bangkok etc.

As we all know, in the last fifty years, Commerce and Business have gained great acceptance as key factors capable of ushering in progress. Most significantly, the attitude of governments all over the world has become very favorable to the growth of business and industry. Most of you would be aware of our progress in the Ease of doing business; it has been achieved through many progressive measures including the removal of unreasonable restrictions.

However, it is not just large businesses which receive support from the government. Even micro businesses get ample governmental support. All of us know about the Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency [MUDRA], a Government of India Scheme, which supports development of micro enterprise sector in our country. MUDRAhas been supporting Banks for lending to micro units having loan requirement upto Rs.10 lakh.

You may recall that another Government of India scheme, the Stand-up India, had facilitated bank loans from
Rs.Ten lakh to Rs.One crore to applicants from women and the weaker sections for setting up businesses in manufacturing, services or trading sector.

Thus, it is clear that the economic policy encourages business and industry with great enthusiasm. Yet, we find a certain level of reluctance on the part of people to come into business for the fear of failure. This is mainly due to lack of awareness about proper business practices and the lack of technical and other skills to manage businesses. As a person hailing from Judiciary, I request all entrepreneurs to be aware of and adhere to, the relevant statutes, rules, regulations of Central and State Governments, maintain good relationship with the labour force which is the backbone of any venture, strictly follow labour laws, environmental laws and safety measures.

The question today is : what contribution can organizations like  Apna Pariwar Global make in this regard?  Here, I would like to remind the entrepreneurs sitting here about the social responsibility of business.  Some management Gurus believe that businesses plays a social role by providing services and economic stability. Besides, there is no doubt about the role played by business and industry in strengthening the national income and in bringing development. Therefore, some feel that running a business profitably is in itself a social role well performed.

But, we have progressed from the conventional concept of seeing profit-making as the only aim of business, to an era of Corporate Social Responsibility. Through this, business houses create measurable value by addressing social issues and problems that intersect with their business areas. It is noteworthy that at even before the legal stipulation about the need for corporate social responsibility, we had many business houses strengthening their involvement in the process of social development.

However, business houses should also introspect on how much they can contribute to shaping human resources for a better tomorrow. Today, every emerging technology offers a new business area, but we have a dearth of trained manpower even to take such businesses forward, let alone make profit from them. This situation calls for urgent stepping up of our facilities for training and skill development in various businesses. It is here that organizations Apna Pariwar Global could take the lead and become a guiding force.

I understand that Apna Pariwar Global would also be sensitive to the increasing international exposure that Kerala has been receiving in the recent years. The Kerala society is becoming international in its outlook and new avenues for International Trade are opening up.  Our people in business have to be empowered to utilize the upcoming global opportunities.  Kerala expects valuable inputs from the experts of Apna Pariwar Global.

I would also suggest that we work towards Equitable, Sustainable and Green development, in tune with the present development needs and aspirations of Kerala.  The new entrepreneurs should be mentored in such a way that their businesses would  contribute to Green development efforts by limiting pollution and adopting green protocol in functioning, wherever possible.

I would like to conclude by reminding the members of the Apna Pariwar Global that business should contribute not only to the gross national product, but also to the gross national happiness, which is an indicator of a better quality of life.  As Mahatma Gandhihas observed, The man who goes into business to do WELL, stays in it to do GOOD.

I hope the efforts of Apna Pariwar Global would also be channelized to the creation of a happier society through business activity.  I wish them all the best.

I compliment the organizers for conducting this function in a befitting manner.
