The Chancellor's Award
The Chancellor's Award, which is the brainchild of the Honorable Governor Shri. Justice(Retd) P.Sathasivam, has been instituted    to nurture the spirit of healthy competition among the State Universities in Kerala,   in becoming vibrant centers of learning.
The prestigious award  carries an amount of Rs. Five crores, a citation and Gold Plated Trophy . The  prize money, provided by the State Government in its Budget, is meant for capital expenditure for any major project in the University.

Background
It was the Vice Chancellors' Conference, chaired by the Honorable Governor, Shri. Justice(Retd) P.Sathasivam, on 27th October, 2014 at Cochin University of Science and Technology that had decided  to institute the Chancellor’s Award . 

 Subsequently, the Chancellor’s Council comprising  the Chancellor, the Pro Chancellor  (Minister for Education), the Vice Chairman, State Higher Education Council and all Vice Chancellors of the Universities in Kerala headed by the Chancellor, the Secretary Higher Education and the Secretary to Governor as the Convener, was formed.  

The selection for the award is  based on the marks  scored by the varsity for its  performance  in  broad components such as   Academics , Teaching & Pedagogy methods ,Students Profile & Achievements Academic Governance and other achievements.      Marks were awarded on the basis of a list of  criteria related to the performance in these areas. The quality of performance of the Vice Chancellors before the Selection Committee also plays a role in the awarding of final marks.

The Process
  The Selection Committee firms up the application form for the Award, with the honorable Governor's  approval. The Universities are asked to  submit  the data regarding their achievement of the criteria,during the period of assessment.   The application for the Chancellor’s Award is hosted on the web site.

Inspection Process
 With the approval of  the Selection Committee and the honorable Governor,   an  inspection team   visits  the participating  Universities to verify  the  original documents / data in support of  the  claims made in the application form, in the presence of the University officials and prepares a tabulated  statement.

 The Selection Committee  would review the tabulation statement, records and   the videos submitted before making the final selection. The university that gets the maximum score will be selected for the Award.

The first Chancellor's Award (2015) was bagged by the University of Kerala. In 2016, Mahatma Gandhi University bagged the Award.
