 It gives me great joy to address this celebration of Sir Syed Day, organized by the Aligarh Muslim University Old Students Association of Kerala [AMUOSAK].

       I am informed that Aligarh Muslim University has the rare honour of attracting a substantial number of students from the far southern most part of the country. It has resulted in the formation of this Alumni Association, each member of which fondly cherishes the values of humanism, fraternity anddedication, which the University has inculcated in them.  It is only natural that this affinity towards those noble values has encouraged them to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of their Alma Mater, in a befitting manner.

 I think, it was this affinity which also encouraged the setting up of a Special Centre of Aligarh Muslim University in Malappuram district of Kerala.

 Personally, this celebration is quite special to me, almost like a homecoming, because I too, had the good fortune of being shaped by the same University.

       It is indeed, commendable that this celebration is being conducted in Farook College, which is known as Aligarh of South India. As an autonomous college with ten research centres, affiliated to the University of Calicut, Farook College endeavors to possess an academic grandeur akin to that of Aligarh. 

     Let me at this moment, recall the efforts taken by Prof. K.M. Bahauddin, Dr. P.K. Abdul Gafoor, Prof. M.A. Shukoor, Prof. K.A. Jabbar,Mr. P.A.Q. Meeran Saheb and others to form this association. I am also happy that I could also address this celebration, which, in earlier days, had been addressed by great luminaries, jurists and other people of great eminence.

SOME POINTS

1.Alumni Associations have a great role to play in today's higher education scenario. For students and institutions, Alumni are the link to the future.

I am happy that Aligarh Muslim University Old Students Association of Kerala provides all possible assistance to those who seekadmission in the University and serves as information cum guidance bureau. It helps the meritorious students through scholarships and merit awards.

2.Like Corporate Social Responsibility, we have the concept of University Social Responsibility, for which Alumni can help the universities with suggestions and financial / knowledge support.

3.If the Association has not thought of forming Sir Syed chair in any institution in Kerala, it can be thought of. The proposed Centre must encourage research and study on the values that Sir Syed had upheld and propagated.
